We are allowed to dispense medication to our patients who live more than 1.6 kilometres from a pharmacy. Medication requests and queries for such patients are managed by our Dispensary. Dispensary Opening Times. All other patients will either be issued with a paper prescription* to take to the chemist of their choice, OR will have their prescription sent electronically direct to the chemist of their choice. Medication requests and queries for chemist patients are managed by Patient Services.
(*Update - as of 31st March 2020 we are upgrading to the next Phase of the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) which will mean that almost ALL our prescriptions will be processed electronically. Electronic prescriptions save the NHS money. You can read more about EPS on the NHS Website.)
If the doctor prescribes medication for you and asks you to come straight to the dispensary to collect it, please allow us time to dispense and check it.
Requests for medication should be made in writing. For safety and audit purposes we are unable to accept medication requests over the telephone. Patients can submit requests using our SystmOnline services, by fax, by email, by letter or by completing one of the forms available at the front desk.
Please allow 72 hours (three working days) whether picking up your prescription from Dispensary or collecting from the chemist.
When collecting medication you will be required to pay for each item unless you are exempt. You will be asked to show your exemption certificate or other proof of exemption each time you collect your prescription. We accept cash and most cards for payment of prescription charges, but are unable to take Amex cards.
Pre-payment certificates are available which may save you money if you have to pay for medicines on a regular basis. Please ask the dispensary team for details.
